A BLACK IN WHITE HOUSE
“I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.”
-Thomas Jefferson
Barack Obama’s runaway victory in the 2008 presidential elections begins a new political era in United Nations. The epoch making election of Mr. Obama is perhaps the second earth shaking event in American history after the abolition of slavery. The descendant of a social class once frowned upon and socially boycotted should rise to the top post in the US is indeed a miracle and testifies the wisdom and sagacity of the Americans. There was a time when black people all over the world were considered as slaves. Though slavery was abolished a long time back racism exits even in this 21st era. Obama’s victory is recognition for blacks all over the world. For the first time in the history of the world a representative of once ignored society acquired the office of a powerful country. It will be a significant moment when a black steps in to the administrative office of a white country. This is a miraculous change for the world where racial discrimination still exits. This election shows how far the American society has come from the days of slavery. This is a lesson for whole world that it is the personal qualities and not religion or caste which decides its leader.
We, the people of India must think about Indian pride rather than thinking about a particular religion, caste or community. Until we do that our democracy remains hollow.
Obama is a phenomenon heralding the changing consciousness of Americans and rest of the world.
Good Luck Obama !
